Spa Party Favors

Here's an inspiring photo on what this blog can help you do! This article was originally published in an online magazine called Nonpareil which currently down and has been down for years.

I am starting this blog because I saw some awesome pictures on Pinterest when searching for ideas for my daughters Spa Party. Everyone has ran into this issue now an again when you press the link and the information is no longer there...boooooo. Luckily, I was on a mission to find the printables for this party and maybe some of the recipes as well. I did come across some of the magazines online through another site http://issuu.com/nonpareilmag/docs/np_2_split2 however the articles are not printable so I have taken the liberty to get the recipes for all the favors to you via this blog. The printables are a different story I reached out to the contributor from www.papercrave but never heard back from her.

Sugar Scrub (Six 8oz. Jars)

3/4 cup stearic acid
1/2 cup + 1 tablespoon emulsifying wax
3/4 cup shea butter
2 1/4 cup fractioned coconut oil
6 3/4 + 7 1/2 cups white sugar
2 1/2 + 3 teaspoons fragrance oil
8oz. plastic jars with lids

Instructions

In a large microwave safe container add the stearic acid, emulsifying wax, shea butter, and coconut oil. Microwave on high in 1 minute increments, until all ingredients are completely liquid, about 3 minutes. Add sugar to the liquid mixture - 7 1/2 cups for more heavy duty scrub and less for a more gentle scrub. Add fragrance oil and stir until combined. Allow to cool for 10 minutes and spoon into jars.

Cupcake Bombs

2 cups baling soda
1 cup citric acid
1 tablespoon bentonite clay
2 tablespoons fractionated coconut oil
1 teaspoon fragrance oil
Small spray bottle
Witch hazel
Large mixing bowl
Foil cupcake liners
Cupcake pan
Colorant (optional)

Frosting:
3 tablespoons meringue powder
1 pound confectioners sugar
6 tablespoons water
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
5-6 drops of fragrance oil
Mixing bowl
Hand mixer
Large zip top bag
Colorant (optional)

Instructions

In alarge mixing bowl combine the baking soda, citric acid, and bentonite clay. Mix together with a spoon or with your hands, and add the coconut and fragrance oils. Stir until everything is thoroughly distributed. If you're adding colorant, mix it with your oils before adding to the dry mix for more even color distribution.

Add witch hazel to a spray bottle, and as you work the mixture with your hand, spritz with the witch hazel until the mixture is damp enough to hold together when squeezed. Keep the mixture moving to prevent wet spots when spritzing. You may notice a light fizzing sound, but make sure not to add too much witch hazel or the mix will start to react hence the bubbling and fizzing.

Mound the damp mixture into cupcake liners that have been placed in a cupcake pan. Using your hands, press the mixture into the cupcake liners, compacting until there are no obvious loose areas. Brush off any loose mixture. Allow the bath bombs to set for at least 15 minutes before frosting.

Combine all frosting ingredients in a mixing bowl. Beat with a hand mixer until the frosting forms stiff peaks, about 5-7 minutes. Cut one corner from a large zip top bag, and insert the cake decorating tip. Frost the bath bombs just as you would a cupcake. Allow to dry overnight before packaging.

Bentonite clay gives hardness to the bath bombs but it can also turn bath bomb mix grey. If you are using a colorant and don't like the shade then lower the amount of clay to 1 teaspoon or leave it out all together.
